NYFW French Tip Nails Inspired by Essie

Simple, smart, and cool fashion choices were displayed at Rebecca Minkoff’s fall show at New York Fashion Week. The designer’s collection was filled with feminine and masculine elements that also showed up on the nails and created a bold twist on a classic French tip manicure.

Nail guru, Michelle Saunders, for Essie used Bahama Mama ($8.50) as a base and Midnight Cami ($8.50) on the tip for the runway look. I recreated the design using the same shimmery blue polish and instead made due with Essie’s Bordeaux.

Negative Space Nail Art Tutorial Using Scotch Tape

If you’re in the mood to unwind with some nail art, I’ve got the mani for you! Read below and find out how you can execute a deep red wine negative space design.

Supplies: Base coat, deep red wine polish, hex glitter polish, top coat, scissors, Scotch tape, dotting pen (or toothpick) and tweezers.

You’re just six steps away from an intoxicating look.

1. Cut out ten small triangles using tape and scissors. The pieces should be small enough to create a negative space around it.

2. Prep the nail with your favorite base coat. I used Essie’s protein base polish ($8.50). Once the polish is completely dry and hardened, use the tweezers to place the triangles on your nails. Have fun with the placement!

3. Apply the deep red polish (I used Essie’s Bordeaux, $8.50) around the triangle to fill in the negative space. Quickly peal off the tape and be careful not to smudge the polish.

4. Place a blot of glitter polish on paper and use the dotting pen to pick up and apply sequins. I used Pure Ice’s Dazzle Me ($9.95).

5. Place the sequins on the nail to outline the triangle.

6.Once the entire design is completely dry, finish off with a top coat. I used Ocean Nail Supply’s My Quick Dry Nail Lacquer.

Prismatic Nail Art

Lately, I’ve been relating to Katy Perry’s latest album, Prism. Her power anthems radiate positivity and I am letting the light in.

I celebrated my 24th birthday in November. I definitely wanted to shine. So I figured the occassion called for a prismatic mani.

I was particularly proud of the execution on both hands. They looked equally solid.

This manicure definitely got some attention. That day, I out-shined my own candles.

Here is a video of the entire manicure.

Negative Space Nail Art

Intricate negative space manicures are in this holiday season. Inspiration for the designs can be found in fashionable cutouts and sheer panels from skin-baring ensembles right off the runway.

From Nail It! Magazine’s interview with nail artist, Naomi Yasuda, to Teen Vogue’s nail art tutorial by nail guru, Madeline Poole, it’s clear that the look is here to stay. But blending bare nails with colorful designs requires a little bit more patience than your typical nail art.

To kick off my adventure into a season of negative space manicures, I started with something simple. To quote Eden Univer, “You’re four lines away from too-cool nail art.”

Marvel’s Venom Inspired Nail Art

Where do you find inspiration? Is it something you feel or be?

Before I paint my nails, I think about people that influence me through their generosity and creativity. For this manicure, my brother came to mind.

He is one of the most artistic human beings I know. I posted a photo of a drawing he made on my personal Instagram about a year ago. He inspired me then and he inspires me now.

This photo does not do the drawing justice by any means.

One of my older brother’s favorite characters of all time is Marvel’s Venom. I let the poison take over me and created this nail art.

Katy Perry’s Prism Inspired Nail Art

Last week I was a lucky VIP guest at Katy Perry’s “We Can Survive” benefit concert at the Hollywood Bowl. Thank you Citi Bank!

This is how close my friend and I got to the beautiful “Firework” singer.

I was so moved, touched and inspired by Katy Perry and her new album “Prism.” From her power anthem, “ROAR” to her uncharacteristically vulnerable “By the Grace of God,” her new tracks offer pure pop positivity and relatedness.

The addicting album influenced these two manicures:

1. Louder than a lion ready to ROAR in this manicure.

2. Technicolor glitter manicure to reflect the light of a prism.
